Facilitate and Inspire Student Learning and Creativity
- Promote, support, and model creative and innovative thinking and inventiveness.
- Engage students in exploring real-world issues and solving authentic problems using digital tools and resources.
- Promote student reflection using collaborative tools to reveal and clarify students’ conceptual understanding and thinking, planning, and creative processes.
- Model collaborative knowledge construction by engaging in learning with students, colleagues, and others in face-to-face and virtual environments.
PERSONAL REFLECTION
The first standard deals with teachers today and how they are faced with the challenge of motivating students whose lives have been inundated with technology. Even preschoolers know how to use cell phones and computerized games. Facilitating learning while keeping students engaged in classroom activities now requires both careful planning and a lot of creativity on the part of the instructor. Communication capabilities have exist on a global basis and collaboration is no longer seen as something to be discouraged. It is rather something that should be incorporated into any learning environment. Students need to be able to apply knowledge in a real world setting much sooner than past generations and working in conjunction with others only increases the potential for learning.
I chose to include my technology survey, word document and slide presentation as artifacts for this standard to illustrate a variety of tools. The survey is a relatively easy way to access a student's access to resources. My word document of a lesson on clouds demonstrates one way to minimize the hardships to students without such access. The slide presentation is an example of how digital tools can give traditional methods of delivery a more engaging look and encourage students to focus on the material.

FUTURE LEARNING GOALS
I look forward to gaining more insight into the motivational aspects of instruction as I complete my degree. I would like to sharpen the skills I have learned in IT 645 and create even more dynamically appealing learning tools and instructional materials. I plan to create even more websites for both personal and work-related topics.
